The story of how WhaPay came to be

2025 – The Spark

Founder David Ochieng realized that millions of Kenyans had no way to accept digital payments because they lacked internet. The idea of WhaPay was born: payments that work offline.

Early 2026 – Prototype & Beta

First version launched with WhatsApp registration, QR codes, and Member Code payments. 500+ merchants joined within 3 months.

Mid 2026 – Offline Registration

Introduced voice call and SMS registration via 0140933042. Now anyone with a basic phone can get a Member Code and QR.

Today – Global Ambitions
